Nevada

June 20, 2009
Traveling across California and after spending the night in Reno, we headed for Ely, NV. It is clear and 54 degrees. We traveled via Rt. 50, in Nevada, which has been labeled "The Loneliest Road In America". We can well attest to this title after driving for miles, and miles without seeing another vehicle, or inhabitants of any species, except for a pair of gray wolves that crossed the road in front of us. It was sheer pleasure driving at our own pace, and taking in the awesome views without the pressure of keeping up with traffic on the fast paced, packed freeways and interstates. This road was truly a highlight of our trip thus far. The smooth road, rolling hills, acres of desert, and a mountain highway that climbs and winds to reach over 7,600 feet. With temperatures as low as 42 degrees, we continued on through Austin and Eureka, and enjoyed seeing a steam engine chugging along the roadside. We almost envied the residents of these quaint towns nestled in these spectacular mountains. We were on this lonely, lonely road for a total of about 260 miles. Every mile was better then the previous! We're sure the Lord led, and wanted us to see the beauty and tranquility we experienced on this route. We continue to thank Him for traveling mercies.
